Visiting Denia, Costa Blanca, Spain

The stunning white beaches on Costa Blanca South have been the setting to many cherished memories, where people from around the world travel to holiday or even to live here.

However, there is much more than meets the eye to this wonderful part of Spain as the spectacle is distributed across the entire region.

In the north you will find Denia, which thrives around its harbour. One of the most significant in the country, it has created a flourishing city with plenty to see and do. The harbour is quite a sight where you can just watch the boats come in and out for hours. From the harbour, Ibiza is just a 2 hour ferry ride away and many of the other Balearic Islands have scheduled ferries – however there is plenty to keep you occupied in Denia so there’s no need to run for the boats just yet!

The foremost of the attractions is the city's glorious castle which dates back to the 11th and 12th century. Here you will be able to strategically see the whole city, the surrounding areas and far into the sea. The castillo is steeped in the rich history of the area, providing a portal to the past to show you the evolution of the castle and the region. The style of Denia Castillo is mainly Arabic due to its Muslim origins but it is also mixed with later styles – ancient

Roman ruins are also identifiable for example. All of which give more character to the impressive structure.

Inside the castle, the Governor's Palace and museum can be found, allowing you to delve deeper into the area’s background and learn more about the history and culture of the region.

The town itself is extremely tourist friendly, proving all the amenities and luxuries the modern visitor expects. It boasts an excellent shopping area as well as a wide variety of bars and restaurants, provide the highest quality of local and international food, making it the perfect way to end your day.
