A Tourist’s Guide to Torrevieja

Torrevieja is a coastal town situated on the South of the Costa Blanca and is known for its varied culture and its mix of languages, ranging from the traditional Valencian Spanish to the Castellano Spanish.

Once an old fishing town famed for its salt production, Torrevieja is now a popular area for those that holiday in Spain. Although only a small town, the local blue flag beaches offer an excellent spot to enjoy the warm weather and clear sea views.

At La Mata Beach on the northern side of Torrevieja you`ll find a range of water sports and activities. Travel to the south of Torrevieja and you`ll experience the quieter Los Naufragos Beach. However, don`t forget that at the end of a long day exploring the area the medical bath and lagoon are an excellent way to relax and unwind.

Whilst the sun-drenched sandy beaches provide the the perfect location for rest and relaxation the seafront attractions offer fun and local cuisine with a local market, fun fair and a wide selection of places to eat all within a just a few paces of the sea.

The shops also draw the crowds with an excellent range in town, including a hypermarket and nearby attractions such as a cinema, bowling alley and a waterpark.

Aquopolis, the local waterpark is only open during the school holidays which begin in June and finish in September. However this attraction is great for families and young children and can make a fun day out when teamed with other local experiences on offer such as go-karting. > Aquopolis Website

For a taste of local history take a trip to the edge of the “Salterns of Torrevieja, the two salt water lakes and the second largest of their kind in the world. Visit La Mata and you`ll find more historical stories in the old port and watch towers situated along the coast line.

However, for those looking for a lively nightlife, Torrevieja will not disappoint with discos and nightclubs providing excellent entertainment into the early hours.

A shadey spot on a quiet beach is perfect for sleeping off the late nights and early mornings and before long you`ll feel completely at home in this welcoming coastal town.

Getting around the town of Torrevieja (or the area) is easy too with car rentals in Spain making a tour of the area stress free. With a car rental you`ll not only get to see Torrevieja at your leisure but you`ll never have to rush away or plan your holiday around transportation links and schedules. A perfect way to enjoy your time in the sunny destination of the Costa Blanca.
